T20 vs Lymington CC, 1st XI

After a washout on Saturday, we had a second opportunity to dodge the weather with our first taste of SPCL Twenty20 Cricket.

From the outside looking in, this shorter format should favour the green and gold, not for cricketing reasons, but more so due to the questionable fitness levels and aging bodies of some of the selected team - we name no names….

Put into the field first, Lymingtons star studded line up were well contained by our opening bowlers, before a constant stream of wickets, including 2 good catches by the two fielders who were actively trying to be hidden by the skipper, began to fall. A sharp rain shower led to some of the green and gold looking like they’d entered the local wet T-shirt comp, but a fantastic effort by all 11 FWCC players kept Lymington to 168.

Openers Tom and Regs got us off to a bit of a flyer as the former hit the first 5 balls of the second over to the boundary, clearly focusing more on the ball than the atmospheric conditions above. A quick fire 49 from Tom, combined with good contributions from Eric and Lex kept us in the game until constant wickets fell, falling short of the Lymington target. Some concern about Daryl’s whereabouts mid innings were quickly alleviated as he appeared upon on the fall of the 8th wicket, clearly wanting to give his teammates the opportunity to excel against the strong bowling attack.
